Since he was told during two doctor office visits, one emergency room visit and three days in the hospital in Columbus, he "probably" had a virus and he was NOT diagnosed sooner with the RMSF and given antibiotics(which he had asked the doctor for atleast twice when he was in the hospital),his brain and all of his organs were swollen from the bacterial infection caused by the tick bite ... Thank God we didn't listen to the doctor who was responsible for Brian's care while he was in the hospital... (Beatrice Daily Sun, NE)

The best way to prevent dogs from contracting RMSF is to limit their exposure to ticks. This includes limiting their access to tick infested areas, particularly between the months of March through October. (The Money Times)
