While health officials are awaiting laboratory tests on stool samples from some of the sick, they believe that the illness may be caused by some form of norovirus ... Norovirus is generally not considered serious for the general population, but young children, the elderly, and "those with chronic underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes, may develop more severe complications and should consult with their health care provider," according to a statement from the state Health Department.
